Cuddly soft Shaker inspiration. Isak by Røros Tweed
The Isak cushion by Røros Tweed was designed by Norwegian duo Anderssen & Voll. The nuanced surface of the soft wool cushions was inspired by the woven cotton band of traditional Shaker chairs. With their two-tone design, the cushions make a beautiful decorative piece on the sofa or armchair.
In 2016, Røros Tweed were part of an international design research project called "Furnishing Utopia". The first phase was organised as a workshop at Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts, USA. The ISAK throw was first sketched during this visit. The classic Shaker chairs are often woven from colourful woven cotton ribbon. The ISAK blanket is inspired by this, but translated into a light, soft and decorative blanket.
New wool care instructions:
Hand wash up to 30 °C with wool detergent, iron to max. 110 degrees! Prof. Dry clean gently!
STORY
The Røros Tweed company is located in the mountain town of Røros, 600m above sea level. A textile factory with a history all of its own, for here lies the origin for a special foundation.
It all started with the will of the director of a copper mill, Peder Hiort, who bequeathed his fortune to the poor of Røros in the 18th century. The money was to be used to buy wool for distribution to the poor, who used it to make clothing and textiles, which were urgently needed in the cold mountain region. The home workers delivered the products and received their wages. The textiles were then distributed to the needy.
Many who had first received wages for the work were given the produce back as a pittance. The will is still regarded as one of the most intelligent foundations in the North.
The idea of the Hiort Foundation and its competences and quality standards was taken into a new era with the establishment of Røros Tweed. A central spinning mill was set up, but the weaving was still done at home, just as it had been for over 150 years in the days of the Hiort Foundation.
Today, all Røros Tweed products are manufactured industrially and with innovative technology to meet modern demands for quality and design.
Norwegian wool from pure Norwegian production and close collaboration with leading Scandinavian textile artists and designers make Røros plaids one of Norway's most renowned quality products.
Røros tweed has been awarded the Norwegian Design Council's "Award for Outstanding Design" several times.
