Geometric shapes. Mikkel by Røros Tweed
We're really taken with the Norwegian cushions from Røros. The finest virgin wool straight from the Norwegian mountains. The Mikkel cushions, in a mix of pastel shades to grey, are inspired by Bauhaus geometry in their design. In addition to their powerful colour palette, the lambswool cushions also have a pleasantly soft feel thanks to the double roughening of the fabric.
The Mikkel series was launched at the ICFF in New York in 2015 and won Best Textile at the ICFF Editors Awards.
A beautiful and versatile design piece with great utility. Makes any home a much more upmarket place.
New wool care instructions:
Hand wash up to 30 °C with wool detergent, iron to max. 110 degrees! Prof. Dry clean gently!
STORY
The Røros Tweed company is located in the mountain town of Røros, 600m above sea level. A textile factory with a history all of its own, for here lies the origin for a special foundation.
It all started with the will of the director of a copper mill, Peder Hiort, who bequeathed his fortune to the poor of Røros in the 18th century. The money was to be used to buy wool for distribution to the poor, who used it to make clothing and textiles, which were urgently needed in the cold mountain region. The home workers delivered the products and received their wages. The textiles were then distributed to the needy.
Many who had first received wages for the work were given the produce back as a pittance. The will is still regarded as one of the most intelligent foundations in the North.
The idea of the Hiort Foundation and its competences and quality standards was taken into a new era with the establishment of Røros Tweed. A central spinning mill was set up, but the weaving was still done at home, just as it had been for over 150 years during the Hiort Foundation's time.
Today, all products are made in the factory.
Today, all Røros Tweed products are manufactured industrially and with innovative technology to meet modern demands for quality and design.
Norwegian wool from pure Norwegian production and close collaboration with leading Scandinavian textile artists and designers make Røros plaids one of Norway's most renowned quality products.
Røros tweed has been awarded the Norwegian Design Council's "Award for Outstanding Design" several times.
