Beschreibung
The "Hori-Hori" is the most popular tool for weeding and planting in Japanese gardens. The razor-sharp blade, pointed and slightly curved shape makes it easy to plant and transplant potted and outdoor plants. The width of the blade is for light digging work and the serrated and sharpened edge can be used to divide herbaceous plants or clip roots.
Each Horo Hori comes in a beautiful cardboard box.
Care and use instructions:
As with all Hori Horis, these are not absolutely invincible. Do not stick into hard ground and pull back hard or the blade may bend.
Most Niwaki tools are made of carbon steel - this means that with regular use they will stain (and eventually rust) and gradually lose their sharpness. Caring for them involves three things.
1. proper use:
- Japanese steel is hard and sharp and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will break if overused .
- Don't cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges)
- Do not twist or apply uneven pressure .
- Cut diagonally across the knots (not straight) so that you cut along the fibres .
- Watch the maximum cutting mass and do not overdo it (shears are not loppers) .
- Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts .
2. Keep clean:
- Remove leaf resin, rust and dirt with a Crean Mate and water .
- Dry, wipe with Camelia Oil and store in a dry place.
3. Keep them sharp:
Even new tools need sharpening after a certain time. For best results, use a grinding stone of 1000 grit, for general sharpening.
