You can view the Cocktail Table in the ASANDRI Studio

.

The Cocktail Table is light and elegant with sophisticated design details created by Finn Juhl in 1951 for Baker Furniture in the United States to match the sculptural Baker Sofa. The table is made in oak or walnut and with a table top in veneer or high-gloss laminate in white.

Despite its size, you can move freely around the table thanks to its organic shape without sharp corners. A shape without sharp corners and edges.

In the 1950s, the economy was booming in the USA. Hollywood and the new upper class had made cocktail parties immensely popular, and Finn Juhl was impressed by this newfound American extravagance, which he learned about through his new and influential American friends.

The colour samples shown on the screen are intended as a guide and do not usually correspond to the actual colour shade. Minor colour deviations are possible with natural products such as wood and leather.

Designers

When designing a piece of furniture, Finn Juhl did not think about a practical construction, but rather the way of thinking of a sculptor. This way of working was not yet known in the 1940s and 1950s. His goal was to design furniture with movement and life. Finn Juhl was proud that both the supporting elements of the furniture and the person sitting seemed to float.

Finn Juhl originally wanted to become an art historian. Since his early years he was interested in visual arts. However, his father did not allow him to pursue an artistic career. Instead, Finn Juhl enrolled in the Department of Architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Finn Juhl began his studies in the 1930s, an important period in furniture design when modern design emerged. While still a student, Finn Juhl began working with the well-known Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1934. In his studio he worked on large projects such as the Danish Broadcasting House and Copenhagen Airport. Finn Juhl was so busy that he never finished his studies. Nevertheless, in 1942 he was honored to become a member of the Academic Architect Society and later became a visiting professor at the Institute of Design in Chicago. At the time he was making a name for himself as a furniture designer, he always described himself as self-taught.
