Hatashikki and Mute Studio have teamed up to create a series of plates and bowls that combine traditional Japanese craft techniques and modern design. The linear round shapes fit well with the natural grain of the aralia wood. "Soji" means "the smooth wood" before the lacquer is applied, and this series shows the beautiful character of the natural wood. "sara" stands for "the plate", and there are 3 sizes to choose from. The small sizes are perfect for small snacks like cakes or nuts, and the large version for dishes.
Each product is unique, accordingly formal variations in size, colouring and grain are possible.

STORY
In 1930, Unomatsu Hata set up his own business as a hand lacquerer.
Later, together with the second generation, he founded the Hata Lacquerware Factory, which specialised in all kinds of lacquerware.
The Yamanaka lacquer tradition in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been maintained for 450 years.
The lacquerware is made on a wooden lathe, a technique that has been cultivated for 450 years.
The aim of Hata Lacquerware is to produce "tools for daily life".
High-quality materials, beautiful and functional design
In addition, they should be easy to handle and durable.
